Reading Lessons
Pupils in S1-S3 will be given time in class to read material of their own choosing. Time will be given for pupils to visit the school library where they can receive recommendations on popular books and the latest releases.
This dedicated reading time should be supplemented with time spent reading at home. In order to encourage this, pupils are expected to set themeselves targets stating how much they would like to read of their chosen book before their next reading lesson. These should be manageable but ambitious targets and pupils are encouraged to push themselves. It is also advised that pupils read a variety of literature of different genres. This will help develop language and comprehension skills.
Pupils are required to keep a 'Reading Target' sheet up to date. If this is lost a new copy can be downloaded by following the link below. Pupils are also encouraged to reflect on the books which that have read and to complete a short 'Reading Record' sheet reviewing their book.
If you would like some advice on reading materials please ask Mr Arnold for some help. Alternatively there is plenty of information available in the school library on the most popular books.
