Texts

These texts have been read and analysed in class with pupils preparing quotation analysis sheets for each. These sheets are vital for essay preparation and should be kept and looked after for revision purposes. Pupils have also prepared practice paragraphs and essays on these texts which would also be valuable revision tools.
Extra copies of worksheets and templates can be downloaded from the resources section of this page.
- Arthur Miller's 'The Crucible'

Folio
As part of the Intermediate Course pupils are required to prepare a folio of work for assessment. This folio is valued at 20% of the overall course mark and so it is vital that it is completed to the highest possible standard. The folio will consist of two essays. One of these will be broadly discursive in it's nature whilst the other will be a personal piece of writing, either imaginative or reflective.
Close Reading
The course also contains a Close Reading element. This will test the pupils ability to Understand, Analyse and Evaluate an unprepared extract. Pupils have been provided with summary sheets to assist them in preparing for the different question types that are used in these papers. If these summary sheets need to be replaced they can be downloaded from the resources section of this page.
It can be very beneficial to read quality journalism in order to prepare for a Close Reading examination. This familiarises pupils with the language and style of the types of texts which they will be looking at in their examination.
